How do I register for ice skating lessons?

How much are ice skating lessons?
Lessons can be paid for via a block booking (£72 for a block of 8 lessons) or included in a our Lesson Pass Skate Membership (£40 monthly). For full pricing details, please visit our membership page or ask at reception.
Who can join our Skate UK lesson programme?
Skating is for everyone, from little tots to grown-ups!
- Skate Tots: Ages 3-Under 5s
- Skate UK: Ages 5+
- Adults: We have a fantastic adult skating community, and Saturday adult lessons are a great way to join in.
Can you join mid-term?
Absolutely – there’s always room for new skaters if spaces are available.
Do you offer private or 1:1 lessons?

Getting Started
When should we arrive for lessons?
Try to get here 15 minutes early to put on skates and be ready to go.
How long does a Skate UK lesson last?
All Skate UK lessons last 30 minutes
What do I do when I arrive for my lesson?
Please check in at reception on arrival each week. Bring your Skate Pass card to scan, or give your name at the desk if you’re PAYG. Once everyone is ready, the instructor will take the register and guide participants onto the ice.
What happens if I miss a lesson?
If a lesson is missed, your space remains secure if it has been paid via Fit Life or Skate Pass. The Lessons Coordinator monitors absences of three consecutive weeks or more. If you expect to be away for longer, please inform the Lessons Coordinator to keep your place.
What should I bring to a lesson?
Dress warmly for the ice – layers, a cosy jacket, hat, and gloves are recommended.
What is ‘Card ID’ when signing up for Home Portal?
Your card ID is the MC number below the barcode on the back of your Skate Pass card
How can I monitor my child’s progress?
We have a Home Portal where your child’s progress can be viewed. The Home Portal can be accessed through our website or on the MLC app
Lessons & Progression
How are lessons structured?
We group skaters by ability (skating level), so everyone learns at their own pace. We also run adult-only lessons.
How do skaters move up levels?
During lessons, coaches continually assess each skater. Once all elements for a level are completed (usually around 5 per level), it’s time to move up!
Do skaters get badges or certificates?
Yes! Certificates and badges are available from reception upon completion of each Skate UK level and are priced at £2 each – a lovely way to celebrate achievements.
How can I access private or 1:1 lesson?

Can parents watch?
Of course – watch safely from the rinkside and cheer them on!
Can I take photos or videos?
Sorry – photography or video is not allowed during lessons.
What if the rink is closed for maintenance or events?
We’ll let you know by email or phone if your lesson is affected.

What is the ratio of instructors to participants?
Each class has a maximum of 1 instructor to 15 participants.
What happens when you pass a level and need to move up?
Once your progress is confirmed by the instructor, the Lessons Coordinator will email you with instructions to select a new day and time for the next level.
When will I have completed lessons?
Participants progress at different rates. The final level of our star-level lessons is Platinum.
Safety & Gear
Where do we get skates?
Head to Skate Hire, swap your shoes for skates, and your coach will take attendance at the start of the lesson.
Do I need my own skates?
A limited number of skates are available to borrow from the skate hire desk and should be returned after the lesson.
Do I need a helmet or pads?
It’s up to you! Protective gear isn’t mandatory, but you’re welcome to wear it. We don’t provide gear for hire, so bring your own if you’d like extra protection.
Can we store skates or bags?
Yes, while you’re skating! Lockers are 50p (refundable). Please don’t leave anything overnight.
What if someone gets hurt?
Don’t worry – all our coaches and the ice team are fully first-aid trained.
Ice Clubs & Opportunities
Can skaters join ice clubs?
Yes! Each club has minimum level requirements:
- Moray Juniors Hockey: Level 5
- Caledonia: Level 6
- Moray Figure Skating: Level 4
All our coaches are qualified through British Ice Skating to deliver the Skate UK programme. Profiles will be coming soon so you can see who’s teaching your skater!
