Frequently Asked Questions

What is Group Reformer?

Group Reformer classes use specialised reformer machines to provide a low-impact, full-body workout that helps improve strength, flexibility, balance, posture, and core stability. With guidance from our instructors and the motivation of a small group setting, it’s suitable for a range of fitness levels and a great way to move, strengthen, and feel your best.

Who is Reformer for?

For ages 16+, Reformer is perfect if you:

• Want to get stronger but feel unsure in the gym
• Are returning to exercise or recovering from injury
• Want a low-impact but effective workout
• Enjoy a guided, coached session

Please note: Reformer Pilates is not suitable during pregnancy. If you are pregnant and looking to stay active, please speak to our team about alternative exercise options available at the centre.

What training have the instructors completed?

All instructors delivering Group Reformer classes hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification. This qualification covers:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Health and safety in a fitness environment
  • Exercise programming principles
  • Teaching and coaching techniques
  • Adapting exercise for different abilities

In addition, instructors have completed specialist Group Reformer training through Fit Core, which includes:

  • Safe use and operation of reformer equipment
  • Exercise technique and progressions
  • Class design and delivery
  • Adapting exercises for different fitness levels
  • Participant safety and support

Our instructors have also undertaken the required practical training hours to develop their coaching skills and confidence on the reformer machines before delivering classes.

Do I need prior experience to join?

Not at all. Our beginner classes are designed for beginners and will guide you through everything step by step.

Is Group Reformer suitable for beginners?

Yes. Exercises can be adapted to suit a range of abilities, and instructors will provide guidance throughout the class. We recommend speaking to the instructor before your first session if you have any injuries, medical conditions, or concerns.

What should I bring to class?

Comfortable gym clothing that allows you to move freely. We recommend:

  • Leggings or shorts

  • A fitted top

  • Grip socks must be worn

Can I arrive late to a Reformer Pilates class?

To ensure the safety, quality and enjoyment of every participant, late entry is not be permitted.

The beginning of each session includes essential safety guidance, a warm-up, and time for your instructor to ensure your Reformer equipment is set up correctly, including spring settings, foot bar position and any adaptations required for injuries or individual needs.

Group Reformer classes are carefully structured, with exercises progressing throughout the session. Arriving late can increase the risk of injury, mean you miss important guidance, and disrupt the flow of the class for both the instructor and other participants.

We appreciate that delays can happen, but this policy is in place to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.

Is Reformer suitable if I have an injury or health condition?

Reformer is low-impact and often suitable for many people, but we recommend:

  • Speaking to your GP or health professional if unsure

  • Letting your instructor know before your first class

We can help modify exercises to suit your needs.

Are grip socks required?

Yes, grip socks are required for all Group Reformer classes.

Grip socks help provide better traction on the reformer machine, reducing the risk of slipping and helping participants move safely and confidently throughout the class. They also support hygiene standards as the machines are used by multiple participants throughout the day.

Participants can purchase grip socks from reception before their class or bring their own pair purchased elsewhere. Anyone attending a class without grip socks will need to buy a pair before taking part.

How many people are in each class?

Classes are set at 12 participants maximum so you get more coaching, support, and attention from the instructor.

How do I book a class?

Classes can be booked via:

  • Our app

  • Online booking system

  • Reception

Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking in advance.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes – we just ask for at least 48 hours’ notice so your space can be offered to someone else

How often should I attend?

For best results, we recommend 1–3 sessions per week, depending on your goals and experience.

Is it included in my membership?

Reformer classes are not included in Fit Life membership.

Can I try it before committing?

Yes – we have pay-as-you-go classes priced at £10 per class available so you can try Reformer before committing to a regular routine.

Why are Group Reformer classes not included in my membership?

Group Reformer is a premium small-group experience with limited spaces available in each class. The classes require specialist equipment, additional instructor training, and higher delivery costs than traditional fitness classes.

To help ensure availability and maintain the quality of the experience, classes will be available on a pay-as-you-go basis at £10 per session.
